We Need to Solve California's Recycling Problems. SB 54 and AB 1080 Will Only Make These Problems Worse.
Californians are educated consumers. We pay close attention to the quality and safety of the products we purchase for ourselves and our families, and we care deeply about the environmental impact of the choices we make every day.
Reducing the amount of plastic waste that ends up in our landfills and litters our environment is a critical priority. But without the necessary infrastructure in place to recycle many of the products families rely on every day, Senate Bill 54 and Assembly Bill 1080 will increase state costs by more than at least $23 million while also hurting the availability, affordability and quality of many products California families rely on for our health and well-being. The State’s own Department of Finance opposes SB 54 and AB 1080 because they’re costly, duplicative, and won’t actually work with our current recycling infrastructure and technology
